Referral is an exhibition based on a fictional corrective training school for artist vision. Kym Carson is the central protagonist of the work who is referred to the school as she can no longer distinguish between subjective and objective forms of looking, and believes ‘the institute’ has rendered her body an object. The exhibition consists of fabricated reports, interview transcripts, artefacts and a series of textual, performative and video works that present the tests and referrals that Carson is subject to by the institute.
Commissioned by DAM Projects (Armanprit Sandhu, Morgan Quaintance and Daniela Rose King) as part of Sunday School #4 at A_SPACE Gallery, London. Funded by Arts Council England. The exhibition contained materials and artefacts from The Museum of Ophthalmology London and The Wellcome Collection London.
